Title: choosing signal generators for pipelined ADC tests
Post by vivkr on Nov 26th, 2005, 5:46am

Hi,

I would appreciate if someone could provide pointers on the kind of instruments that one can get to test high-speed, high-resolution ADCs in the range of 14-16 bit resolution, and upto 40 Msps throughput.

Thanks
Vivek

Hi.

The following datasheet might be helpful.

http://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/Data_Sheets/107897653AD9244_b.pdf

Agilent 8644 is used as SG there.
But you have to insert LPF or BPF between SG and DUT for removing harmonics from SG.

Accuracy needed for evaluationg ADC with more than 10bit is very severe, it is beyond accuracy of SG itself.

So characteristics of LPF or BPF is more critical than SG.

You should order special fixed filter.
Variable filter or standard product fixed filter can't be consistent for more than 10bit ADC's evaluation.

:P :P :P

Vivek,

I would recommend characterization of the static performance using accurate generators combined with low-pass filters to suppress thermal noise. For dynamic performance, it will depend on your SFDR spec. Rohde&Schwartz have some nice RF generators which may be up to your requirements.

Best

Paul
