Title: New style of the forum Post by boa on Jan 3rd, 2006, 4:55pm Ken, in my opinion it's not a good idea to write the forum topics italicized, it's much more difficult to read them now. Especially in the "Last posts" column.. |

Title: Re: New style of the forum Post by Forum Administrator on Jan 9th, 2006, 9:26pm I am using italics to represent links, and I'd like to keep that practice because it results in the site looking cleaner and more attractive, at least on the newer displays that have built-in support for anti-aliasing. I have just increased the font size a bit. Let me know if you still think the italics are problematic. -Ken |

Title: Re: New style of the forum Post by vivkr on May 4th, 2006, 5:02am Hi, I don't know if others have this problem as well, but I often am unable to see the text of certain posts. I just see the "Hi" on top, and if I select this text, and try a scrolldown, then I can see the message of the post, but only 1 line at a time, depending on how well my wristwork on the mouse is. This has been happening for a while now (a month or more I think). Is there any way to get around this problem. I suspect it has got to do with the way different browsers handle frames. I use Netscape 7.0. Regards Vivek |
Title: Re: New style of the forum Post by Ken Kundert on May 4th, 2006, 4:28pm Can you see the layout properly? Is just that the text is missing, or are the entire message area of the posts shrunk down to a very small size, so there isn't room for more text? Can you send me a screen shot? To take a screen shot on Windows, press the "Print Screen" key and then paste the figure into something. -Ken |
Title: Re: New style of the forum Post by vivkr on May 6th, 2006, 11:43pm Hi Ken, I see different variations on the messages. Sometimes, the message area is shrunk down to a single line, but there is a scrollbar on the right. However, this (image attached) is by far the worst case. Regards Vivek |
Title: Re: New style of the forum Post by Ken Kundert on May 9th, 2006, 8:15pm Vivek, I have asked around and nobody can figure out why you are having the trouble you are having. I recommend that you either try upgrading to the latest version of Netscape (v8.1), or perhaps switching to Mozilla or Firefox. I use Firefox and it works great for me. -Ken |
Title: Re: New style of the forum Post by vivkr on May 9th, 2006, 11:24pm Hi Ken, Thanks for the tip. I would like to switch to a different browser, but as I cannot install/upgrade the browser on the office workstations, I guess I have to wait until the administrator does it for me :) Thanks all the same. Title: Re: New style of the forum Post by Ken Kundert on May 10th, 2006, 10:31am Concerning the readability of the text set in italics, I have found that those people using Windows can dramatically improve the way text is displayed on screen, particularly when using LCD displays, if they change to using ClearType screen fonts. To do so 1. right click on the empty desktop and select 'Properties' 2. Select the 'Appearance' tab 3. Click on the 'Effects' button 4. Check "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:" and then select "ClearType". 5. Click "OK" 6. Click "OK" You may have to restart your computer to see the effect. This is definitely worth doing as it really cleans up all the text you see on your screen. -Ken |
