Title: A. Richard Newton
Post by Ken Kundert on Jan 4th, 2007, 11:57am

A. Richard Newton, professor and dean of the College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, a pioneer in integrated circuit computer-aided design, and a visionary leader in the technology industry, died on January 2 of pancreatic cancer. He was 55.

Richard was an important force in the development of the CAD industry. Among other things he led the development of SPICE3 and help to found both Cadence and Synopsys. More recently he was the driving force behind the founding of the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), established in 2001 to develop the next generation of technologies that will be critical to sustaining California's economic growth and global competitiveness and to solving society's most critical needs.

He was doing great things, and he will be missed. You can find out more about Richard and his contributions at http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2007/01/04_newton.shtml.
