Title: A few questions about excitation and solution type in HFSS
Post by Yutao Liu on Mar 16th, 2009, 8:59pm

Hello everybody,
I want to simulate the standing wave, which is formed by the encounter of an incident wave and a reflected wave, in a pair of differential transmission lines, which is shorted in one terminal. Also, I want to know the propagation constant of this structure and extract its equivalent circuit for following simulation.

It is appropriate to choose "driven terminal" as solution type for extraction for equivalent circuit, and choose "wave port" as excitation for propagation constant?

Thanks!

For your reference:

wave port setup:
1 driven modal solution -  we need define integral line
2 driven terminal solution - we don't need define integral line but we need assign which one is reference.

In that case, it seems no other choice beside the above 2 solution type for wave port.

If S-parameter no difference, extraction should be no difference between two solution types.
