Title: Cadence IC610 errors at startup
Post by sutapanaki on Sep 25th, 2009, 1:57pm

Hi,

I hope this is the right place to post this question. My apologies if it is not so. I'm trying to run IC610 on Centos 5.3 - 32bit version. When I start icfb, I get a bunch of errors like below. Any idea what is going wrong and how to fix it?

Qt Warning: X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) 8
Extension: 153 (RENDER)
Minor opcode: 4 (RenderCreatePicture)
Resource id: 0x44
Qt Warning: X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) 8
Major opcode: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
Resource id: 0x44
Qt Warning: X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
Extension: 153 (RENDER)
Minor opcode: 4 (RenderCreatePicture)
Resource id: 0x3000011
Qt Warning: X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes)
Resource id: 0x3000011
Qt Warning: X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)
Resource id: 0x3000011
Qt Warning: X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)
Resource id: 0x3000011

And this list continues.
Thanks

Hi sutapanaki,

why do you try to start "icfb"?
In Cadence 6.1 this is obsolete. You have to start using "virtuoso"...

Best regards,
Markus

What version of IC are you using (type virtuoso -W in terminal)? The latest version is IC613.500.16 which just came out a day or two ago. I also get errors related to Qt, but not the same as you.

Do you see this as well?

can anyone explain what is the difference between using icfb and virtuoso when starting ic610? Thanks

Yes, if you try with IC614, you'll get "command not found"!

In previous releases, we used to have lots of different executables for different combinations of capabilities. For example, in IC5141, there was icfb, icms, msfb, icca, icde, icds, layout, layoutPlus (and I'm sure more). In practice, the vast majority of users used "icfb" all the time, especially as the main benefit of having a smaller executable foot print really made insignificant difference on modern compute platforms. Having all these executables increased the amount of testing needed, for very little user benefit.

So in IC61X we moved to a new executable name "virtuoso". We also provided "icfb" which printed a warning (saying that icfb was going away, but then proceeded to launch virtuoso). In IC614, this compatibility script has finally been removed.

Regards,

Andrew.

what kind of your system plateform ??
this must be the reason of X window.turn off X windows in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, add following expressions:
Section "Extensions"
Options "composite" "Disable"
Endsection

Hello there,

I have 2 questions.
1)Why did many people used icfb in the versions before IC614?
2)whats the difference between icfb and virtuoso executable files?
Is it that many small executables are merged into virtuoso in IC614?

icfb is no longer provided by Cadence, but many corporate CAD groups create a link from icfb to virtuoso or create a script named icfb that is used to run virtuoso.

In this way they minimize the impact on the end users and any existing scripts.

Yes, icfb is no longer provided and we have virtuoso now. But what is the difference between icfb(which we had earlier) and virtuoso ?

And why did many people use icfb in the previous cadence versions?

icfb used the old cadence proprietary database. virtuoso uses the open-access database.
