Title: Question on PLL's phase noise test
Post by seekconfessor on Jun 8th, 2016, 6:48am

I am using a spectrum analyzer to measure a PLL's output normalized phase noise L(f);
My measurement method is Direct Spectrum Measurement and the spectrum analyzer is set: RBW=1KHz, detector=average;
On L(f) calculation, Stanley_J._Goldman's book "Phase-Locked Loop Engineering Handbook for Integrated Circuits" introduced one way as the attached picture show.
While, some Agilent spectrum analyzer manual books say, the phase noise under test should be:
L(fm)=P(fm)-Pc-10*log10(RBW)+2.5;
I am wondering which one is correct for phase noise test.
Thanks.
