Joule Heating Effect of RMS Current

I come up with a problem of high RMS current with zero DC average.

TSMC provided a rule of RMS current limit. The limit is quantified with consideration of temperature rise of Joule heating.

My question is that what's the consequence of Joule heating? What if I allow 30c Joule heating with a 125c junction temperature?

Hi Neoflash,

I guess there is some dependency on the type of process you´re using, but typically the max allowable and reliable junction temperature (infinite time) for silicon is 165C. Higher temperatures might be allowed but assuming shorter times as such temp is increased.
So, 30C over 125C should not be a problem
