phase noise to jitter conversion
Mar 21st, 2018, 8:52pm

Hi, I am referring to a thesis from niknejad's group, which uses the following formulae to convert phase noise to frequency uncertainity
[img][/img]

I tried calculating frequency uncertainty for the same example that was stated in the image. But I could not get the 0.1 ppm answer that he gets. can someone help me with the intermediate steps

The equation uses a noise PSD. What is given is its value at 1M offset alone.  To calculate the integrated jitter upto 100us you would have to integrate the weighted phase noise from 5G to 10K offset frequencies. I am not sure if you have this information contained in the rest of the reference text.

Regarding the 0.1ppm, he means an accumulated jitter of 10ps per 100us time window.
