Title: RF system budget in voltages
Post by rfzingle on Jul 31st, 2005, 12:14am

Most of the RF system budget (eg. Gain,NF,IIP3 etc.) are always given in terms of power since it is a valid analysis for a discrete RF system where power tranfer rules the world.

However for RF-IC design, power transfer is over-ruled by voltage transfer. Is there a proper sytem tool or paper available which does all the receive/transmit chain calculations in terms of voltage ..eg.specify voltage gain, input referred noise voltage and AIIP3 etc and relate them to Power Gain,NF and PIIP3 etc for different impedance levels.

Thanks
Vikas

Vikas,

The example in Cascade analysis example in Razavi's
book, RF Microelectronics, includes both power and
voltage calculations.

There is a paper dealing exactly with what you are lookin
" Noise and intercept point calculation for modern radio receiver planning"
by
C.R.Iversen and T.E.Kolding
have fun..
