Title: how I can generate hspice netlist from cadence
Post by just_started on Aug 6th, 2005, 7:07pm

hello,

I'm trying to learn analog design by myself. I have access to commercial
design tool at where I work.
I downloaded a MOS model from a university's website. I'm trying to build
opamp. I think the model is in hspice format. it starts like .model nmos nmos level = 49
+parameters ....
+parameters.....

I use cadence virtuso schematic entry to build a simple circuit. I used
nmos4, pmos4 symbol from candence analogLib. then go to analog environment, specified model path, model file name. then when I ry to generate hspice netlist, it complained can't find parameter 'model, it
just stoped. I tried to change model name to to noms4, pmos4, it didn't
work. I also tried specifying model file name directly under nmos4, pmos4
property window's model directory. it got better. it can recognize model
name, but start to complain syntex of the mode.
so my question is how to make cadence work with third party mos model?
thanks a lot.

I'm having trouble understanding what you are doing.

You say you're trying to generate an HSpice netlist, and OK, the .model is in HSpice (not Spectre) format.  I don't understand what is complaining about the syntax of the model -- is it the simulator, or the schematic editor?  I wouldn't expect the schematic editor/netlister to care about the syntax of the model card.

Can you generate any sort of netlist?  Ie, just with a resistor?

Where have u defined the model file path and name? U should do this in setup->Model Libraries.
Second U don't have to try different model names, Just check also the name of the transistor model in the model file u got, and set it as it is in the property model name of the transistor u instantiated from analoglib.
Also u should not forget to switch the simulator to HSpiceD if u r going to simulate ur opamp with HSpice.
