Title: Mixer Analysis
Post by aaron_do on Jun 11th, 2008, 8:50pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to understand the analysis of a passive mixer. In order to find the conversion gain, i think i need to:

1) Write the periodic time-varying equation for the switch resistance in a fourier series expansion

2) Write differential equations to describe the circuit input output relationship.

3) Take the fourier transform of the differential equation while substituting the fourier transform of the fourier series expansion of the switch resistance.

4) Take the harmonics i want and call it the conversion gain...

Is that right?

Basically i end up with something like

Vout(jw) = G*Vin(jw + jwLO)

where i have removed all unwanted frequency components of both Vout and Vin, and jw is the IF and iw+wLO is the RF input. G is the conversion gain...

thanks,
Aaron
