Title: Delta-Sigma latency Post by Cri Azzolini on Oct 3rd, 2008, 2:26am Hi all, I am going to enter the wonderful world of delta-sigma ADCs so I am reading as much as possible on the topic. Although there is a lot of literature about delta-sigma ADCs, I did not find anything regarding the latency of the conversion (critical for my application). I suppose that the latency is strongly affected by the modulator architecture and the digital filter architecture/implementation. Does anybody of you find some useful doc (jounals, application notes, white papers, ...) about latency in delta-sigma ADCs ? Many thanks in advance, regards. Cri |
Title: Re: Delta-Sigma latency Post by Berti on Oct 3rd, 2008, 4:35am As you already said: The latency is strongly affected by the decimation filter. Depending on the STF, the modulator might have from 0 to a few clock cycles latency. But then I think it becomes difficult to predict how long it takes for the decimation filter to provide a valid output .. without designing one. I am not even sure if delta-sigma modulation is a good choice for low-latency applications.(?) Regards |
