Title: Bias Generation schemes
Post by Asmodeus on Apr 26th, 2009, 3:11am

Hi all,

I want to know of various bias generation schemes.

The only scheme i know is using beta-multiplier circuit and then using current mirroring to generate the bias voltages. But i have heard of other means to generate biases too as using error amplifiers etc.

Please tell what are they and give me the references for them.

Thanks. :)

hi Asmodeus,
i guess it depends on the where you want to use that bias.most Popular biasing scheme is high swing cascode, which is available in text books.  You can extend the same architecture for different cascode levels, but with my experience i learnt that REPLICA biasing is the best one.Coming to your beta multiplier people are using error amplifier to bias top current mirror load with out using diode connection.Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Rajasekhar.
