Title: Monopole antenna
Post by ic_engr on Feb 19th, 2010, 1:25pm

Hello All,

I would like to model a 1/4 wavelength antenna for simulation using both real and imaginary components in Cadence. Can anyone suggest me any formulae that are useful for estimating R & L.

The followings are general notes for you.

- Always describe vendor's name and tool's name which you use.
- Don't do multiple posts which are same content.
- Don't request source code or behavioral model without any efforts.
- There are many simulators which have analyses called as PSS, PAC and Pnoise.
- Describe in detail with using correct terminologies.
- Warnigns are different from Errors.
- ADS is not name of simulator.
- There is no tool which name is Cadence.
- Don't use Direct Plot of Cadence ADE blindly without knowing definition.
- All gains in Direct Plot of Cadence ADE are "right", "true" and "practical" voltage gain.
- Don't mix up Simulation with Post Processing. They are completely different phase.
- MATLAB are different from Simulink.
- Learn measurements using actual instruments. Not "EDA Tool Play

See eq.(22.2.10) of http://www.ece.rutgers.edu/~orfanidi/ewa/ch22.pdf
This is an input impedance of dipole antenna.
An input impedance of monopole antenna is given by half of an input impedance of dipole antenna.

Or see "John D. Kraus, Antennas , McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc., 1950, pp. 276-278."

If you need precise characterizing, use Agilent EMPro(EMDS, AMDS).

Also you can use following in Cadence Virtuoso Schematic Editor by porting it to RFDE with CDF parameters or more simply creating symbol for it and including netlist, although I don't know what you mean by "Cadence".
