Title: Books on Mixers Post by sabawat on Feb 24th, 2010, 5:48am hello all, what are some good books on designing Mixers? particularly on gilbert type double balanced mixers... thank you... |
Title: Re: Books on Mixers Post by RFICDUDE on Feb 25th, 2010, 4:56pm I don't think there is a good book just on the topic of mixer design. Most RF/RFIC books include mixers as a topic, but I can't point to one that stands out over the other. Each usually covers the fundamental concepts behind mixers, but not necessarily the design details. There are a plethora of papers on the topic with detailed information; although, sometimes it is difficult to pull the design details out of the discussion. The other problem is that the design details are somewhat specific to the technology of interest (CMOS versus bipolar) even though the topology is the same. I don't think I have seen a text or paper that deals with the details of both. So, what are you looking for? |
Title: Re: Books on Mixers Post by sabawat on Feb 26th, 2010, 4:34am Thanks for the reply... i want to design mixers in CMOS(180nm) tech. can u suggest a paper which serves as a good starting point for gilbert type mixers.. |
Title: Re: Books on Mixers Post by oermens on Feb 26th, 2010, 7:38am Can't start better than this... Gilbert, Barrie. ``A precise four-quadrant multiplier with subnanosecond response," IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 3:365, 1968. |
Title: Re: Books on Mixers Post by aaron_do on Feb 26th, 2010, 8:54am Hi, try two papers by the authors, Terrovitis, M.T. & Meyer, R.G., named "Noise in Current-Commutating CMOS Mixers" and "Intermodulation Distortion in Current-Commutating CMOS Mixers" both are published in the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits cheers, Aaron |
Title: Re: Books on Mixers Post by sandman on Mar 2nd, 2010, 5:53am Once you've managed to digest the theory and operation of mixers, Agilent ADS has some simple but interesting examples on RF Mixers, that are particularly useful in understanding the basic tradeoffs for simple topologies. Nonetheless, it helps to know all or most of the theory before you start toying around with the design tool! Cheers. |
Title: Re: Books on Mixers Post by loose-electron on Mar 2nd, 2010, 1:08pm Tom Lee's RF IC on CMOS book - I see 2nd Edition is out there now: http://www.amazon.com/Design-Radio-Frequency-Integrated-Circuits-Second/dp/0521835399/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1267564034&sr=8-1-spell |
