Title: designing a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO)
Post by mustakhim on Mar 10th, 2010, 4:22am

hye guys,

I'm looking to design a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) that meets the below requirements :

-output voltage should be periodic but doesnt matter what shape

-should adjust its frequency in response to input voltage which is 1V-2V.

-input impedance should be more than 10k ohm and output impedance should be less than 1k ohm

-1V produce frequency FL and 2V produce frequency FH

Can anybody give me where is the good place to start? Thanks in advance for any help.

min-max frequency?
phase/jitter requirements?
CMOS? Bipolar? 5um or 28nm?

more info needed/

the min and max frequency is not given yet, its given later during the lab.

The method of doing it is indipendent, and theres restriction in designing it as long as it meets the requirement.

thanks

um, how do I put this nicely? Why are you coming here to have this forum do your school homework?

Read the instructor provided materiel and study up on the subject.

sorry about that, but i just want a rough idea on designing the circuit. The lab exercise is to design the circuit, without giving any additional information rather than the requirements stated above. I post it in this forum just to get some rough idea on how to design the circuit that meets the requirements given. I hope you guys can help me as i'm still learning about electronics.

Thanks

some constructive suggestions ---

Google the topic and see whats out there. (duh!)

Start looking into textbooks.

If the design is board level look at whats out there for available components.

Go see:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?WT.z_homepage_link=hp_ProductIndex&lang=en&site=US&keywords=

and search there for suitable parts.
