Title: Figure of merit for wideband low noise amplifier
Post by saam on Nov 23rd, 2010, 9:17pm

Hello
Can anyone give the formula for the Figure of merit(FOM) for wideband low noise amplifier for wimax applications.

ThankU
saam

There are many figures of merit available.  What performance metric are you interested in?  NF?  IIP3?  Gain?

Hi,

are you talking about one FOM to try and summarize the total performance of the LNA? If so, there is no perfect FOM. However, I have seen some very bad FOMs around. So as a suggestion, when you are deciding your FOM, it should be based on real tradeoffs in the circuit design. It doesn't make sense for you FOM to have something like VoltageGain(dB)/PowerConsumption(mW) because voltage gain in dB is not proportional to power consumption in mW.

cheers,
Aaron
