Title: characteristic impedance calculator
Post by vp1953 on Apr 5th, 2011, 5:00pm

Hi

I am wondering if there are any calculators out there that will provide the width for a 50 ohm transmission line, for different FR4 board thicknesses.

Thank you in advance.

There are online calculators on some PCB sites for this

Go do some searching, its out there

vp1953,

You can use the rfcooltools for this by placing a series t-line component between two ports and playing around with the Height , Er and Width.  It is pretty basic.  I have not implemented loss tangent yet but that effect is usually a second order effect for most applications.
