Hi,

Can anybody help me understand how bit duration is decided upon in communication system such as ADSL or GSM communication system? Is there any standard specification on this or is it randomly selected?

hello,
bit period is nothing but data rate (GBPS), for every standard every thing will be fixed and there is no concept of random selection. Please download data sheet for the relevant standard.
