Title: berkeley analog fast spice Post by DSRune on Nov 2nd, 2012, 2:18am What makes this simulator so fast compared to spectre and other simulators? |
Title: Re: berkeley analog fast spice Post by bernd on Nov 2nd, 2012, 3:12am Here are some links which may give you a glue about how these "Fast-Spice" or so called "3rd generation Spice" simulators work compared to "traditional Spice" based circuit Simulators. http://rd.springer.com/chapter/10.1007%2F978-94-007-0149-6_2 http://rd.springer.com/chapter/10.1007%2F978-94-007-0149-6_1 http://w2.cadence.com/whitepapers/5084_AccelCircuitWP_FNL.pdf http://www.allabouteda.com/second-generation-circuit-simulation-fast-spice/ By the way "Berkeley Analog Fast Spice" is not the only simulator in the market which has this techniques. Mostly all dominant EDA vendors have a derivate of their main stream "Spice" based circuit simulator which is a "3rd generation Spice" simulator. * |

See http://www.berkeley-da.com/prod/tech_01.htm, especially the last paragraph. Cadence has taken a similar approach with their new APS simulator, which is also much faster than their old Spectre simulator. Bernd: BDA AFS is not a FastSPICE simulator like UltraSim or the new XPS from Cadence (which BDA calls "Digital FastSPICE"). |
