Title: How to choose self resonant ferq of inductor
Post by mixed_signal on Feb 24th, 2013, 11:14am

Hi,
I need an offchip inductor L= 10nH for matching LNA input @ 2.4Ghz. How do I choose the self resonant frequency? 2X 3x 4X?

In lieu of just choosing a specific self-resonant frequency, I would perform a simulation of the desired matching network as you vary the location of the self resonant frequency by generating a model for the inductor with a self-resonant arm. By studying the impact of the resonance on the actual impedance of the network you are trying to create, my thought is that you can estimate what the actual inductor impedance vs frequency characteristic must be to meet your impedance profile requirement. I hope this approach makes sense...
