Title: Port in cadence
Post by baab on Nov 8th, 2013, 7:35am

Hi,
I am reading this guideline about port in Cadence. Could you explain a bit more about #1 and #3?

port Capabilities
While the port component is generally useful as a stimulus in
high-frequency circuits, it also has the following unique capabilities:

    1. Defines the ports of the circuit to the S-parameter analysis
    2. Has an intrinsic noise source that lets the noise analysis directly compute the noise figure of the circuit
    3. Is the only source for which the amplitude can be specified in terms of power

Baab,

1)  Spectre's s-parameter analysis recognizes and uses port
    numbers

3) For the port, user can define the input level directly in terms
of power. For other sources, users need to write equations
to convert power into voltage so the port is easier to use.
