Title: How to connect PCB and FPGA board?
Post by mixed_signal on Apr 15th, 2016, 9:24pm

Hi,
I have a custom RFIC in QFN package with bond wires. The IC is soldered on a PCB. There are 20 digital I/Os in custom board and they need to be controlled using Kintex FPGA board. The data speed is 40Mbps in each I/O. How to connect the PCB and FPGA board (see attached figure)?

The FPGA board has FMC connector. I am planning to use board to board flexible connector between my PCB and FPGA board. Is there better solution?

Is the separation half a meter?

Hi ULPAnalog,
Yes the seperation is half meter. I am worried about logic levels. The buffers onchip are 1V CMOS single ended inveretrs. Do I need level shifters after FMC?

that is a lot of parallel digital IO

if you need all that distance, you might want to convert to LVDS output driver from one board, transfer over a twisted pair and then convert back thru LVDS receiver to the local PCB ground.
