Title: Schematic entry
Post by aamar on Mar 24th, 2005, 7:49am

Dear All,
I am using Cadence Virtuoso for my schematic entry, I created a symbol for one of my circuits, now I want to insert this circuit(symbol) in my top view several times but with different values of a component inside it.
The problem that any change in one of the instances in the top view affects the others.

Thanks a lot.

Aamar,

When you created the schematic did you specify
the component values that need to change using
pPar, for example, pPar("gain")?

By default in Composer,  component values are
stored on the primitives in the schematic cell view. So
values of all instances are updated together. To
create parameterized schematics in Composer, pPar()
is used to define passed parameters, that is,
parameters that are defined at the next level up of the
hierarchy and passed into the each instance. This allows
parameters to be defined on an instance by instance
basis.

  NOTE:
if you change the value of the component to
use pPar(), you will need to re-generate the
the symbol[update the CDF].  After re-creating
the symbol, it contain a new parameter that
              you can set.

For example,  creating a parameter  using
pPar("Rgain") means that the symbol will
               have a parameter Rgain.

Finally, pPar() only passes information 1 level up the
hierarchy so if your design has multiple levels of
hierarchy, you will need to create multiple pPars to
pass info to the top level.

                                                   Best Regards,

                                                       Sheldon
