Title: Behavioural Modelling of ADC
Post by Leyman on Feb 24th, 2005, 6:25pm

Hi everyone,

I want to learn the behavioural modelling for ADC (pipelined,SAR,flash,delta-sigma) including their non-ideal effects using Simulink. Does anyone knows any good article and notes that discuss about this topic?

Then from the behavioural simulation results i.e. DC and AC performance, how do we set the requirements for each individual block of ADCs?

Please someone consult me on this! Cheers

Did you checked the Matlab exchange web page? There are some toolboxes for behavioral modeling of ADCs. You can start by looking those toolboxes, so you can start with your models. They have a few papers too. If you have a membership go to http://ieeexplore.ieee.org and there you will find all the articles you need. I'm working on behavioral modeling of sigma delta modulators. If you don't have access to the ieeexplore database then use google and you will find some papers.

Leyman,

One other option is to simply Google on the topic of
behavioral modeling ADCs. In general this works pretty
well also.

Leyman,

Here are some papers that are available on the
net that you might find interesting:

1) BEHAVIORAL MODELING AND SIMULATIONS OF DATA
   CONVERTERS
Discussing implementing Data Converter models in
MATLAB and there are some additional papers
   reference in the Bibliography

2) There are also set of presentations discussing Pipeline
ADC Design and presenting many of the important
   equations required for correct modeling.

   Pipeline Analogue-to-Digital Converters
   in particular, presentation #3
   Systematic Design for Optimization
contains a lot of useful information

to help with searching the author is Joćo Vital

3) If you have access to IEEE papers then the following
paper, provides a good overview of the key effects
   to model by circuit architecture
Influence of the Architecture on ADC Error Modeling

In general, the issue is not implementing a model in a
tool. You can implement a model in any number of tools
Matlab, Verilog-AMS, VHDL-AMS, VHDL, Quick Basic. The
challenge is deriving the relationships between block
performace and system level performance.

                                                    Good Luck,

                                                        Sheldon

Mathwork web site has a 3bit pipeline ADC model.

there are some problems in the 3bit pipeline ADC simulink model. Anyway, it may help on how to build simulink model for pipeline ADC
