Title: clock generator and synthesizer?
Post by jason_class on Aug 3rd, 2005, 5:20pm

Hello All

Anyone can technically explain the differences between a clock
generator and clock synthesizer?

I need to do a project on clock generator using PLL. But I know almost
all the sources I found is PLL-based clock synthesizer. I do not know what are their differences?
Kindly share with me how to differentiate them
Thank you all

Jason,

I think they are refered to the same thing.

Don't care they are named clock generator or clock synthesizer, just select one that meet your requirements.

Best regards,
Yawei

Hi Yawei

Thank you for the asnwer.
But I am asked to use clock generator and avoid using clock synthesizer.
That's confused me.
Any idea what does it require?
I worried I further ask my lecturer and he will fed up with me.
Kindly enlighten
Thank you

Jason

It's just my opinion but since you are paying the lecturer, and not vice versa, I suggest you get your money's worth and ask as many questions as you like. Besides, you are probably not the only one with the question.

Hi Jess Chen

You are right about it. I was just thinking to get some more idea before I further asking my lecturer.
Thank you for  the suggestion.
Anyone with any idea, feel free to leave any message here.
Thank you all

best regards
Jason
