Title: Battery energe and voltage
Post by ywguo on Jun 15th, 2008, 7:58pm

Hi Guys,

We integrate more and more LDOs into a SOC. At the same time, the LDOs need to work powered off a Lithium-ion battery. I am looking for some literature about the characteristic of Lithium-ion battery, like its life, the relationship between the energy and voltage, and so on. Any comments and recommendations are appreciated.

I had the same problem recently. But I couldn't find good literature (without reading books of 1000 pages).

What I have been told is (for Lithium-ion battery).

Nom. Voltage:  3.6V
Lowest voltage: 3V
Voltage peaks during charging: up to 5.2V

Any comments are welcome!
Cheers

Hi

Where did you find this maximum voltage for charging (5.2 V) ?
Also, the charge current should be considered and as far as I know the  minimum voltage during charging.

YW,

You might also want to look at

"Dynamic Lithium-Ion Battery Model for System Simulation", L. Gao,
et al, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMPONENTS AND PACKAGING
TECHNOLOGIES, VOL. 25, NO. 3, SEPTEMBER 2002

"Accurate Electrical Battery Model Capable of Predicting Runtime and
I–V Performance", Min Chen, et al., IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ENERGY
CONVERSION, VOL. 21, NO. 2, JUNE 2006

The model should also include thermal dependence and the
degradation in characteristics as a function the number of charge
cycles.

                                                      Best Regards,

FYI,

There was one other paper that might be useful for reference so
I am including it in this discussion.

EDN: Oct 28, 1993, pp 117-132, by Steven Hageman
"Simple PSpice models let you simulate common battery types"

This paper covers most of the other types of batteries you might want to model.

                                                                             Best Regards,

                                                                                  Sheldon
