hello all, i want to know whether you guys have any experience on designing equalizer or not. For say a 5Gbps transceiver, what kind of architecture and error generation as well as the searching algorithm would you recommend to use? I tried to search this forum but didnt find any discussion on this topic. Will you normally use FIR filter and BPF method? how do you search those FIR filter coefficients?

Hi storm:
   for 5Gb/s PCB, Tx-Fir + Rx-CTLE/DFE is good  choice.
   using zero-forcing find MMSE FIR parameter then do LMS  Adaptation.
   JSSC 2008-9 take another way to do adaptive equalizer

Hi,
I have looked at a number of papers on serial link equalization and they all seem to be looking at the signal power at various frequencies and flattening the response. Any idea why phase response is not considered?
Or am I missing something?

I think initial MSE estimation or zero-force algo is difficult. If there is no ADC in the Rx, it is not likely to do any calculation for MSE and ZF algo.

Typically for 5G, people have not been using DFE. Only nowdays has DFE become more popular.

If that is an issue, at 5G you could be able to get away with just Tx and Rx Linear equalizers. This depends upon making sure your channels aren't heavily attenuated or reflective.
