Title: Loading dspf file into schematic?
Post by Haydar on Feb 9th, 2009, 5:26pm

Hi,
Suppose I created independently a dspf file with mosfet AD,PD,AS,PS values. How can I load this dspf file into my schematic in Cadence?
Thanks,

-Haydar

I think there is no official way of importing dspf as a schematic
in Cadence, one may have written some custom SKILL to do this.

But may I ask you what's the purpose of doing this?

Spicevision from Concept Engineering Gmbh should be able to do this. At least the demo I saw appeared to do that with dspf information.

Look at http://www.concept.de/sv_index.html

I was looking at migrating schematics between tools (virtuoso to/from others) at the time, and we did not purchase it.

The reason I asked this is because I have a separate tool which estimates pre-layout device parasitics. And I'd like to get this information into the Cadence flow prior to the Spectre simulation.
Thanks,

Usually you use DSPF in a digital flow, with a static trimming analysis tool. In analog it's typically SPICE like file format with included
parasitics.
Especially if you want to simulate your parasitcs with Spectre you should look if your RC extraction tool may be able to create a so
called 'extracted view' in the Cadence DFII environment, this view then
can be easily plugged in for simulation.
If not SPICE is also a solution, but I guess you will struggle with
DSPF.

Note that Ultrasim supports DSPF stitching - where you can "annotate" the DSPF parasitics onto the transistors in your schematic hierarchy prior to simulating it. There are menus on the ADE forms for Ultrasim which allow you to do this.

Spectre does not currently support DSPF (or SPEF) stitching.

Andrew.
