there are a bunch of different detection methods out there, depending on how degenrated your signal gets in the transmission medium.

Can you be more specific with the question?

data sampler and edge sampler are the sense-amp based regeneration flip-flops. Interested to know what are the differences between them.
Want to use it at the high-speed IO.

Basically, there are no difference between Data and edge samples as far as design is concerned . Only , data sampler is clocked with data clock (q clock) and edge sampler is clocked with edge clock (i clock).
