Title: EM capacitance extraction Post by aaron_do on Jun 5th, 2011, 10:25pm Hi all, I am trying to do an EM simulation on a MIM capacitor using EMX (which is a 2.5D EM simulator probably similar to ADS momentum). I find that there is a huge discontinuity in the extracted capacitance between DC and the first non-zero frequency. Does anybody know how to solve this issue, does anybody know why it happens, and does it happen in other EM simulators? thanks, Aaron |
Title: Re: EM capacitance extraction Post by Frank Wiedmann on Jun 6th, 2011, 6:25am EM simulators can have numerical problems at very low frequencies, see figure 4 of http://www.sonnetsoftware.com/support/downloads/publications/MicroMagMar03.pdf. You could try the free Sonnet Lite (http://www.sonnetsoftware.com/products/lite/) for a cross-check. Sonnet can auto-select a sufficiently high frequency for the "DC" results. Select "Frequency Sweep Combinations" and add "DC Frequency (Automatic)" and "Adaptive Sweep (ABS)" (starting at a higher frequency than the auto-selected "DC Frequency"). |
