Title: Create Symbol from Model
Post by bki on Oct 29th, 2014, 8:54am

i have a external component that i want to simulate in Cadence.
It has 48 Pins. I have a spice model for it.

How can i create a symbol from the model in Cadence? I donīt want to draw a box with 48 pins by hand.

You could use the scasubckt component from the analogLib library. The description given at http://www.designers-guide.org/Forum/YaBB.pl?num=1191334088 applies to IC5. In IC6, you don't need to add the dummy port to the netlist because the ref pin is simply ignored. See also http://support.cadence.com/wps/mypoc/cos?uri=deeplinkmin:ViewSolution;solutionNumber=11013814.

Another alternative would be to use the "Spice In" feature in IC6 (virtuoso -> File -> Import -> Spice) as mentioned in http://support.cadence.com/wps/mypoc/cos?uri=deeplinkmin:ViewSolution;solutionNumber=11557304. A detailed example for this is shown at http://support.cadence.com/wps/mypoc/cos?uri=deeplinkmin:ViewSolution;solutionNumber=11799764. From the created schematic, you can automatically generate a symbol view with Create -> Cellview -> From Cellview.

I have a txt file like ABC.txt as spice model file.
Within the file i have a statement: library ABClib

Then i try: File->Import->SPICE
Input: Reference library: ABClib
Output: library: mylibrary

I get an error due to the reference library.

What is the problem?

Probably that the library ABClib does not exist in your environment.
