Title: Comparing phase noise at different fundamental frequencies
Post by deba on Jul 9th, 2017, 11:49pm

Hi,

Lets say if there is a dBc/Hz(phase noise) profile available for an oscillator at 1 GHz. How does this translate to a phase noise profile at 100 MHz? Can one simply take the phase noise profile at 1 GHz and scale it up by 20*log10(100 MHz/1 GHz)? This will be true if 1 GHz is divided to 100 MHz. But lets say one achieves this by changing the components like tuning caps inside the oscillator to get the centre frequency from 1 GHz to 100 MHz. Will it still hold true?

How does one compare the phase noise profile of two oscillator or signal generator at different fundamental frequencies?
