Cadence spiral inductor modeler
Jan 12th, 2005, 12:14pm

Hi,

Have anyone used spiral inductor modeler in cadence?
I don't know why I always get a core dupmed when I
try to generate a model.

I don't know if it's possible if I generate the inductor
model from other tools such as ADS and run it in spectrel.

Thanks!

It is.
I'm not very experienced with ADS but I think ADS
can write out a simplified Spectre Subcircuit of the
Inductor which is nothing else what the
Cadence Inductor Modeller does.

If not at least you should get a simplified Spice Subcircuit
form ADS which you can easily direct draw as a Cadence
Composer Schematic.

Gogomickey,

In IC5141 USR3 and MMSIM USR2, spiral inductor modeling
has been updated.  The new tool, Virtuoso Passive Component
Modeler provides a more comprehensive solution. It includes
support for PDK Development, Inductor Modeling, Inductor
Synthesis, and Verification.

                                                      Best Regards,

                                                         Sheldon

There is a excel sheet to extract the model of the spiral inductor posted http://www.circuitsage.com/inductor.html. If you find it interesting, newer version has been developed. Can PM me to get it!  ;D

You can also develop a model with a chunk of university freeware: ASITIC

This is from UC Berkley and will get you a first order model.

http://rfic.eecs.berkeley.edu/~niknejad/asitic.html

There are other tools that will get you to a lumped element model which can be dumped back into Spectre -SPice - Eldo (pick one)

That includes: Sonnet, AnSoft and others have tools. Google "electromagnetic model" and you will find the players.

Is it possible to use Cadence VPCM to generate stacked parallel inductors incl. single-end, differential, and balun?
If yes, what about the accuracy? Is that product-proven?

Yes, it is possible. Use consecutive metall layers as winding, and the metal layer next to those winding layer as bridge, you can get stacked parallel inductors.

Regarding accuracy, please refer to the following press release:

http://www.cdnusers.org/InterviewwithEpochMicroelectronics/tabid/398/Default.asp...

Hope it helps
