License features required to run ncsim
Mar 13th, 2006, 10:17am

Hi all,

I'm trying to simulate one of my VAMS models using command line. ncvlog, ncelab are passing fine. But it is stopping at the ncsim stage giving the following error:

Trying to check out license...
       Incisive_Verif_Engine 5.5 - Failed
       Affirma_ams_simulator 5.5 - Failed
       Virtuoso_Multi_mode_Simulation 5.0 - Failed
ncsim: *F,NOLICN: Unable to checkout license for the simulation. (flag - 18) 'lic_error -30'

It must be due to expiry or non-existence of some license feature. Can anybody tell me the exact feature name and if possible the product id??

The licesense feature you're asking for is 'Affirma_NC_Simulator',
but if you rum AMS with pure verilog code, no mixed mode simulation you
only need the feature 'NC_Verilog_Simulator', I guess.
Then you have to run 'ncsim' rather than 'ncvlog'.
Or possibliy you have a 'Virtuoso_Multi_mode_Simulation'
feature then you should use 'ncsim -amslic'.

Just guesses you have to try it.

Thanks, but we do have Affirma_NC_Simulator, but we donot have Virtuoso_Multi_Mode_Simulation in our license file!! Seems like this is the culprit. but can't be very sure. There is also one product NC-Sim Mixed-Language Simulator which is missing and which uses Affirma_NC_Simulator as a feature. Thus effectively, Affirma_NC_Simulator is not effective!!!! Thus, finally very confusing.

Affirma_NC_Simulator:
Is for Mixed Mode simulation, means Verilog and
VHDL what you described as 'NC-Sim
Mixed-Language Simulator'.

NC_Verilog_Simulator:
Is for Verilog only simulations.

Virtuoso_Multi_Mode_Simulation:
Is for the analog simulation, you can
run different analog simulators with different
quantities with it e.g. Spectre, Spectre RF,
UltraSim and it's also required for AMS
Designer. Because AMS runs one of the
analog solvers Spectre or UltraSim under
the hood.

I hope this enlightens things a bit.

Not by a bit it helped me by quite a byte to understand. So can I say that Virtuso_Multi_Mode_Simulation is some sort of a unified platform on which everything can run....spectre,spectreRF,Verilog??
So for Mixed Signal simulation we require this as this requires both type of simulation, verilog and spectre!!

Thanx again.
