The uncompromise among Transient, HB and ENV???
Dec 28th, 2007, 12:45am

Hello everyone,
I am working on LogAmp detector development using ADS tool.
Used topology:

There are the uncompromises among Transient (Trans), Harmonic Balance (HB) and Envelope (ENV) simulations when I try to observe output time domain response as following plots:

The uncompromising points are:
1. Trans simulation introduces very different output steady level (compare with ENV and HB)
2. Trans and ENV simulation show opposite equilibrium-reaching process

Could anyone give me comment on the differences?

Thanks alot for help

What type of OpAmp/Detector did you use ?
When reaching nonlinearities in the stages, the results may vary quite a lot due to different algorithms from the simulators ...

Hi.

What type of signal source do you use for TRAN and ENV analysis ?

Do you use "VtSine" for TRAN and "V_1Tone" for HB and ENV ?

"VtSine" with phase=0 is Sine wave.
"V_1Tone" with phase=0 is Cosine wave.

You shoud set phase=-90deg in "V_1Tone" in ENV analysis.
And you can use "V_1Tone" even in TRAN analysis.

But still there exists discrepancy about steady state value for TRAN and HB.

Could you show me netlist portions about signal source and analysis definitions ?
