Transient Methods in cadence

Hi,

What is the difference in Transient solver methods such as "gear2only" "trap" etc. Can anyone share a good explanation and comparison of their characteristics for required type of analysis.

Afridi,
These are algorithms to solve O(rdinary) D(ifferential) E(quations) numerically.
You can find explanations in any textbook on numerical methods for ODEs. Look for second-order Gear algorithm (gear2), trapezoid (or Crank–Nicolson) method (trap), or backward Euler (euler). The other options are combinations of these options.

Okay thank you. I will definitely look into that.


But isnt there any non-mathematical explanation and comparision of such algorithm in terms of what kind of numerical technique is it, its advantages and its disadvantages in the Cadence documentation or any other open source documentation. For example, SILVACO TCAD has a whole chapter in its help file on the numerical techniques it is using and what are the pros and cons of each solving technique. etc etc

Take a look at Ken's book "The Designer's Guide to SPICE and Spectre" (see http://www.designers-guide.org/Books/#Kundert-1995).
