I don't show a w(1/f3) corner frequency in pnoise
Oct 14th, 2003, 4:20am

I'm a beginner who design a LC-VCO.

I want to show w(1/f3) corner frequency at VCO.

But, when I simulate a VCO through pss @ pnoise, I see a phase noise( -20dBc/Hz at decade) exept this frequency(-30dBc/Hz).

I am using a BSIM3v3 MOSFET model.

How can I show this frequency?

Is NOT inluded flicker noise model in the BSIM3v3? ???

You have to specify a value for the flicker noise parameter, kf, on your MOS model.

Some more Question.....about KF

Thank you for your replying. ^^

I found flicker noise parameter' table in process files after your replying.

But, I don't know how to use this parameter.

It is a part of the table.

*Table of AF, KF for W/L at each bias (Freq.=100Hz)
//*-----------------------------------------------------------------
//*                  NMOS (W/L)        PMOS (W/L)
//*-----------------------------------------------------------------
//*Vbs  Vgs  Vds     Sid     AF     KF         Sid     AF     KF
//* V    V    V     A^2/Hz    -    V^2*F      A^2/Hz    -    V^2*F
//*-----------------------------------------------------------------
//*0.0  0.5  0.1   3.35E-19 0.863 3.01E-24   5.20E-22 1.644 4.79E-23

My question is KF parametr's applying method for simulating Phase Noise.

Both KF and AF are flicker noise parameters. For this table it appears as if ...
For NMOS: af=0.863 kf=3.01E-24
For PMOS: af=1.644 kf=4.79E-23
I am not familiar with sid, though the size of its value is consistent with it being a noise power.

af and kf have nothing to do with phase noise per see. Rather, they specify the flicker noise. The phase noise results because the devices are used within an oscillator.
