What design technologies are you trying to simulate? Analog? Digital? Mixed-analog/digital? Mixed-technology?

And what level of abstraction are you designing at? IC? Board? System?

At least these two can be used with VHDL-AMS (which I'm
sure you'd have found out if you'd have looked through previous postings);

AMS Designer from Cadence Design Systems
 (in IUS53 stream)
Advance MS from Mentor Graphics

Both will require a license, so it's not quite as simple as being able to "download" them.

There may be other VHDL-AMS simulators out there as well, but these are the most commonly used.

Andrew.

Hi,

the following tools have downloadable free, but limited, "student" versions:
SystemVision (Mentor Graphics)
SMASH (Dolphin Integration)
hAMster (SIMEC)
Simplorer (ANSOFT)
I don't know if there is a way to get a limited AMS-Designer licence for educational purposes (?).

Another option is the Saber HDL simulator from Synopsys.

I use SystemVision2002 Pro simulator and o the whole I am very pleased with it.

Yes it has bugs, but doesn;t everything, new versions are constantly coming out though.

I find the post processing, waveform viewer lacking somewhat in abilities.

There are some features of VHDL it supportss, others it doesn't, can always find a workaround though.  Concerning the analog side of things, cant fault it yet, just dont hand it a matrix that has around 500 terms on the leading diagonal!!!!  <CRASHED AND BURNT!>
