doubt about the jitter caculation
Apr 14th, 2005, 3:27am

Dear Ken and all PLL specialists

I have a doubt about the jitter calculation from the phase noise.

In paper "Predicting the Phase Noise and Jitter of PLL-Based Frequency Synthesizers", you give the formulation to calculate the jitter from the phase noise spectrum. From the formulation, we can know the jitter is dependent on the offset frequency and carry frequency. But I have found some calculations for jitter, which are different from your way.  From these papers,  it describe that the jitter value is dependent on the phase noise spectrum value of a region frequency, not only at an offset frequency. You can see the formulation in ppt file, or directly find it in the following website."  www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/appnote_number/3359  or  www.metatech.com.hk/appnote/fordahl/pdf/e_AN-02-3.pdf   "
So now, i am confused on which calculation could be accurate for jitter estimation.  ???

By the way, how to insert a picture in this message?
