DC-DC converter or charge pump
Oct 17th, 2006, 10:37am

An input of 5V, 500mA is to be converted to 12V,2mA.
Should I go for DC-DC converter or Charge pump. As per my understanding, for DC-DC converter the input has to be pulse. Should I think of changing the DC vltage to pulse to use the DC-DC converter OR charge pump should be better bet.
Please suggest,
Thanks

For dc-dc converter u have to use internal internal osc and ramp generator and o/p is controlled through duty cycle....dc-dc conv generally require external inductors and used if drive current is higher.

For 2mA of drive, I think 3x regulated chargepump would be a better option. Here also u will be needing an internal osc for pumping the charge.
