Using S-parameter files in Spectre
Jan 23rd, 2007, 6:02pm

When we use Spectre simulation for such as noise figure and phase noise, can we use S-parameter files? Or it can NOT and the passive devices such as inductors must be included as a physical-meaningful model?
Thanks a lot.

There is a problem when we use S-paramter file in Spectre simulation such as for phase noise and noise figure, because the simulator DO NOT know the "physical meaning" of the S-parameter--such as it does not know the impedance comes from a resistor of a inductance--for the later case, there is no noise from it. So for such kinds of simulations,we must use physical model in simulation. Yes?
Thanks

Hi.

Touchstone format data have noise paramers as option.
However without this noise parameter option, S-parameter generates
thermal noise.

If you need additional noise other than thermal noise, you should add noise parameter.
This is true if your S-parameter boxes are some active device circuits.
