Qty of Samples Sample Required for Sin Wave??
Apr 07th, 2007, 3:07pm

Just a basic question.  How many data points are required to adequetly approximate a sin wave.  Say the sine wave has a frequency of 40 MHz, and will be output from a 10-bit DAC, and then mixed with 175 to 500 MHz.

Does the final up-converter frequency factor in on how approximaet the sine wave can be?  Basically, I'm just trying to do some sizing calculations for a concept in software defined radio.

Two points should be sufficient (Nyquist...)

It rather depends on what you mean by "adequate"?

Andrew.
