Measurement of glitch energy
Jun 07th, 2007, 6:16am

Hi, Guys,

How do you measure the glitch energy of a DAC? When simulation and testing.

By the way, what is the best definition of glitch energy? In Jurgen Deveugele and Michiel Steyart's paper, [JSSC 2006] the glitch energy is defined as the energy difference between the ideal transition and the real transition, shown in the attached figure.

Thanks
Yawei

hi,this is how i calculated glitch :
Worst case glitch energy occurs at mid transition (i.e. when 011111111110000000000 for 10 bit DAC).
Net-Glitch=area1+area2
Area1=1/2*b1*h1; Area2=1/2*b2*h2
Where b1, b2 are base of pulse and h1, h2 are height pulse:
EX: Area1=1/2*0.33v*632.176ps=10.43pvs,
Area2=1/2*0.043v*405.621ps=8.72pvs
Net-Glitch=1.7pvs
