Looking for literature to understand Circuit Simulators
Nov 09th, 2009, 12:11pm

Hi Guys,

I'm interested these days in understanding how Analog/Digital Circuit simulators work. I'm curious about knowing the Maths/Algorithms/Numerical methods behind the different analyses a commercial simulator (Spectre, Eldo ... ) Uses.

I googled a bit and did find the "Circuit Simulation Methods and Algorithms" by  Jan Ogrodzki. I did find a few papers as well some of which are from this site (the RF simulation one).

Would you advise the above book ?
Do you know of any other book, dissertation ... that is likely to help me with this topic ?

Thanks for your advice.
Cheers,
Riad.

It's funny that you apparently did not find http://www.designers-guide.org/Books/#Kundert-1995 during your search (written by the owner of this website).

Hi Frank,

Well, I think I would have said a few words about that book since I have alrady got it on my desk  :-[
ken's book is excellent. It is lacking the RF bits though, things like PSS, harmonic balance ... etc. Again, I did find those bits in the http://www.designers-guide.org/Analysis/rf-sim.pdf.

I'm just wondering whether there is something published in the recent years and that are likely to talk about more of the modern techniques since the computer science has rather exploded in the last years.

I would stick at what i have already got otherwise.

Thank you very much for your comments !
Cheers,
Riad.

Hey Riad

Take a look at "Computer methods for circuit analysis and design" by Jiri Vlach and Kishore Singhal.
