Gilbert's (active mixer) article
Apr 25th, 2011, 4:20am

Hi all,

I apologise for being a bit off topic, since this forum seems to be dedicated to tackling design issues.

However, despite several searches, I haven't manage to locate a copy of Barry Gilbert's paper "Design considerations for active BJT mixers" (i.e. B. Gilbert, "Design Considerations for BJT Active Mixers," Analog Devices, 1995).

If anyone has and could share this paper, it would be great!

Thanks and cheers,

Sandman,

Do you need that exact article or will a similar article written by B. Gilbert suffice?

rfcooltools.com,

I'm looking for the exact article (also published as a short course I think !), but it would be nice to see any similar article on fundamentals of active mixer design.

What I'm trying to get at is not a 'mixers for dummies' but a thorough analysis of active mixers... something like the other B. Gilbert articles (micromixer, mutli-tanh, etc.)

[If it helps, I'm looking at a high (tunable) linearity (>30dBm) and (tunable) gain (0 t0 10dB) mixer from a 5V supply]

cheers,

Contact the author directly - B Gilbert is still alive and answers requests - Google search him, I think he still has a Analog Devices email address.

Sandman,

in 2007 (vol 12 No.4)  Barrie wrote an article in the Solid State Circuits Society News Magazine called "the gears of genius".  Where he reflects on the past years and at the end there is a paper he wrote called "A Precise Four-Quadrant Multiplier with Subnanosecond Response"

Reprinted from the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, Vol. 3, No. 4 (1968), pp. 365-373.

It may not be what you are looking for, but its a start.
