What is the essence of load capacitance (C) when designing an Op-Amp
Feb 24th, 2012, 1:52pm

hello,
I have seen most op-Amp designs with a load capacitance and a few ones without. Is it always advisable to put a load capacitance in one's op-Amp and what is the essence of that?
Thank you

are you talking board level design with an opamp or chip level design of an opamp?

board level = driving capability under capacitive loading

chip level = gain vs. phase characteristics to maintain feedback stability.

Also at the chip level, an opamp usually does not have an output capacitor as part of the design, but an OTA (opertional transconductance amplifier) does.
