"Fast-Spice" or so called "3rd generation Spice" simulators work
compared to "traditional Spice" based circuit Simulators.

By the way "Berkeley Analog Fast Spice" is not the only simulator in the market
which has this techniques. Mostly all dominant EDA vendors have a derivate of
their main stream "Spice" based circuit simulator which is a "3rd generation
Spice" simulator.

See http://www.berkeley-da.com/prod/tech_01.htm, especially the last paragraph. Cadence has taken a similar approach with their new APS simulator, which is also much faster than their old Spectre simulator.

Bernd: BDA AFS is not a FastSPICE simulator like UltraSim or the new XPS from Cadence (which BDA calls "Digital FastSPICE").
