Can I use a Directional Detector as an ASK-Demodulator?
Mar 04th, 2013, 6:26am

first: sorry for my bad english!

hi,
i need an ASK-demodulator. carrier frequency: 24 GHz. data frequency: some kHz. i wonder if a directional detector (for example http://www.avagotech.com/pages/en/rf_microwave/amplifiers/detectors/vmmk-3313/) can assume this function. responds such a device quickly enough?

thank you for all answers!

Dr.

It depends on the bandwidth of the detector and the C/N you need.  Contact the manufacturer to get the bandwidth of the power detector.  it might be as simple as adjusting the output rc filter components to get the  response you need.

in the application notes (http://www.avagotech.com/docs/AV02-3049EN) on page 4 one can read:
"The -3 dB video bandwidth of the VMMK-3313 by itself is approximately 30 MHz and is based on the expression..."
is this the bandwidth you mean?
