mixed_signal Senior Member Offline Posts: 183	On chip balun for single ended to diff May 11^th, 2013, 12:14pm Hi, I am using a balun to convert single ended signal (from signal generator) to differential (onchip). 1. Is it necessary to ground the center tap of secondary? I am AC coupling the differential. 2. Since sig gen has 50 ohm impedance i have put a 50 ohm in parallel with primary.

hello,
1.You could connect center tap to any potential as you are using ac coupling, it doesn't matter what you connect.
2.It depends on your Requirement, are you interested in max power TF or maximum voltage TF. If you are interested in narrow band frequency of operation use a matching network between balun and SG.

Has it any fabrication issues? The common mode can have any value since it is floating..right? 2. Is it not sufficient to terminate the primary with 50 ohm shunt. I just want my V+ and V- to be +-400mV for testing my subsequent blocks
